As the #g20summit concludes in #newdelhi, and the #worldleaders depart, the unmistakable message from the #g20 grouping is that #india has “arrived” on the world stage, a moment decades in the making. Indeed, the #newindia envisaged by #modi & co and its #Vishwaguru “avatar” signifies that perhaps, #indians are getting it “right” this time around, after years of trying.
One can have any number of reasons for disliking the #modigovernment, and especially the #bjp and the Sangh “parivar”. In the same vein, there are infinite reasons to hero worship #narendramodi. Like them or hate them, the “reality” is that the #g20summit2023 does mark a #milestone in #geopolitical terms, as the #indian #establishment has succeeded as never before in making its case for an #india, much respected and as an equal partner at the high table in the comity of #nations.
As I mentioned earlier, this “sweet spot” is decades in the making, and since #independence, #indian #elites, have tried to get it “right”, with mixed success. I have used the quotes intentionally as it is under a #rightwing #government that the #indian #renaissance is being felt, and though successive #primeministers, from #nehru to #Narasimharao, to #Manmohansingh have contributed to this “defining” moment, it is to the “credit” of the #modisarkar, that #indian #foreignpolicy has reached its “zenith”, a fact acknowledged by #mms, in an interview with The Indian Express recently.
The #newindia is confident, self assured, though jingoistic, and “over the top” in its assertiveness. At the same time, #indiaat76 faces myriad challenges and has “miles to go” before becoming a #developed #nation. Yes! We’ve reached the #moon and #mars. But, #poverty, #inequality, and #inequity “mar” the #economic, #social, and #political landscape. Yes! We have a humungous #Diaspora, super successful and spread #worldwide. Yet, unlike the #chinese, the #pravasi #bhartiyas haven’t “given back” to their #motherland to the same extent.
The #indianeconomy is “arguably” a “lone” bright spot in a #globaleconomy in turmoil. Yet, our #Demographic #Dividend risks becoming a “nightmare”, lest our #economy can’t create the #jobs needed. Agreed that #gadkari and #goyal are “splurging” on #Infrastructure. Moreover, #vaishnaw is also touting the #pli and #makeinindia #schemes. But, #manufacturing is #anemic, and the #indianeconomy is largely a “one pony trick”, powered by the #services #sector. More so, when #Agriculture remains stagnant, despite being the “fodder” for #employment.
On the other hand, #modihaitomumkinhai is something that has been “internalized” by many. But, can “he” become more #inclusive and #tolerant, and perhaps, “actualize” the widely used theme for the #g20summit2023, Vasudaiva Kutumbham, Or One World, One Family? Reality suggests otherwise, a fact that wouldn’t have gone unnoticed by the #western #media and the #delegates themselves
