Will Modi-Gadkari’s BIG BET On Infrastructure Lead To Amritkaal?

The #modigovernment is betting big on #Infrastructure. Right from #highways to #ports and #airports, the focus is on going “all out” to create a #supplyside driven #economic #growth.

However, the question is whether #modi and #gadkari can “pull off” a #chinese miracle of the #state driving the #economy through #supply enhancement?

Of course, the #privatesector too is a #partner, with #adani being the most prominent #player. Indeed, it can be said that the #indiastory is being written by #gautamadani, notwithstanding the #Hindenburg #saga.

On the other hand, #supplyside #economics might not work in a still #developing #economy like #india, where it is imperative to #stimulate #demand first so that #indians have the #money in hand to #spend.

This needs massive #jobcreation and #targeted #interventions in #kickstarting #demandsidemanagement. It is an understatement to say that the #modisarkar has “failed” in this respect.

After all, what use are #malls, #airports, and “glitzy” #monuments if #consumers don’t have the wherewithal to use them. Is it that the #mantra here is “build first, then the people will come”?

Having said that, the #hardware is definitely a good idea to have, and then the #software of #easeofdoingbusiness can be operationalized in parallel. Indeed, the “analogy” above fits in well with the #makeinindia push along with #atmanirbharbharat #policy to make the #manufacturing #renaissance a reality in the #indianeconomy.

The BIG If here is “show me the money” of the eventual #sustainability of this #trickledown #theory where someday or the other, this #infrastructuredevelopment has to “pay for itself”. This is the #milliondollar or rather, the #rupees #10trillion #question at the heart of #modinomics.
